Claude Desktop

Taking over the desktop app means writing its 3P config directory plus running a local reverse proxy that rewrites third-party model names. AiSwitch does both.

What you get after takeover

01

3P isolation

Writes configLibrary and claude_desktop_config.json, and cleans both when you revert.

02

Local proxy

A built-in proxy rewrites model names transparently, so the app stops reporting missing models.

03

Orphan ports

Leftover proxy port settings from older versions are removed, along with the yellow warning banner.

Three steps

Pick Claude Desktop

It sits right below Claude Code — easy to mix up.

Add endpoint and key

The proxy listens on 15888 by default and can be changed.

Click "Use it"

The app restarts itself, no manual quit needed.

FAQ

Why a local proxy?

The desktop app only accepts Anthropic model names, so third-party models must be translated on the way.

Does the Store build work?

Yes. It restarts silently through the system, without console windows.
